This week, CTEC EMT students have been exploring Virtual Reality learning with the support of several members of the Culpeper County Volunteer Rescue Squad. The SIM X is a VR system pre-programmed with realistic EMS scenarios, allowing students to engage in hands-on, immersive training. This technology revolutionizes EMS education by enabling students to practice critical situations that would otherwise be difficult to replicate in traditional training. As VR technology advances, its role in education, healthcare, and professional training continues to expand, making it an invaluable tool for the future.

The CTEC Fire Program continued its partnership with the Piedmont Regional Volunteer Fire Academy and the Culpeper County Volunteer Fire Association during an introductory extrication class that covered the fundamental concepts of vehicle extrication. Students learned how to assess a basic auto accident scene, properly use hydraulic and e-draulic (battery-operated) extrication tools, provide brief patient care and assessment to assist their EMT partners, and apply techniques to free trapped and pinned occupants from a vehicle that may be obstructing their exit. This course serves as the foundation for vehicle extrication, and students must continue their education to achieve proficiency. This can be accomplished through advanced extrication classes, conferences, and hands-on training. The students did a fantastic job in this essential, exposure-level training. A special thank you to the Culpeper County Volunteer Fire & Rescue Association, Inc., Reva Volunteer Fire & Rescue, the Piedmont Regional Fire Academy, and Belvoir Automotive Salvage LLC for their support in making this training possible. #SeizeOpportunity #culpepertec
