Student Services

Hi, Parents and Guardians –

Welcome back to Culpeper Middle School!  Your CMS Counselors are looking forward to this school year and getting to know your children.

As their counselor, we are here to help guide them with academic, emotional, social, and career-related concerns.  We reach students through classrooms, individual counseling, and small group counseling. To learn more about our counseling beliefs, click here.

Throughout the year, we will be present with your students in different ways.  As counselors, we will interact with students through classroom lessons.  We all touch base with students early in the fall so that they know who we are, why we are here, and how we can help.  In 6th grade, we will be doing classroom lessons focusing on bullying and cyberbullying. We will also introduce 6th-grade students to careers and career clusters.  Seventh grade also will have a lesson focusing on career development and exploration, and students will meet with their counselor to discuss future academic plans. Students will use the website Family Connection to explore careers and store their Academic Plans.  All CCPS students will use this site from middle school through high school graduation.

Even without entering the classroom, the counselors still work hard to help guide our CMS students.  The counseling department gathers character development videos and generates discussion questions to be shared during WEB time.  Videos touch on various subjects from bullying, to heroism, to helping others.  Last year, we had great success from showing Kid President’s Pep Talk.  If you haven’t seen him yet, check him out here for a great, inspirational video!

As mentioned before, we are very excited for this school year.  We are here to help your children, so please don’t hesitate to contact us.

Sincerely,

Your CMS Counselors
